Security officers shoot suspected terrorist in Abqaiq, Eastern Province

Saudi forces have killed a suspected terrorist attempting to break into a security facility in Abqaiq in the Eastern province, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency.

The man, identified as Nawaf al-Otaibi, resisted arrest and open fired on security officers, killing one and injuring two others. Al-Otaibi was killed in the exchange of fire.

There has been an increase in terrorist incidents in Saudi Arabia in 2015. Suicide bombers attacked Shia mosques in two consecutive weeks in May.

The attack on a mosque in Qatif on 22 May left 21 people dead and at least 80 people injured.   

On 6 August, at least 17 people were killed when a suicide bomber attacked a mosque used by the military in Asir near the Yemeni border.
