Two overnight air raids launched on Baghdad

21 March 2003
US and UK aircraft launched two bombing raids on Baghdad during the evening of 20 March, hitting several government buildings. Two of the three main buildings in the Tigris ministerial complex were burnt out, according to BBC reports. One of the presidential palaces, where Saddam Hussein's wife lived, was reported to have been bombed. Iraqi television said that four Iraqi soldiers were killed in the attacks. The Iraqi army responded with anti-aircraft fire but to little effect.

Bombing raids were also launched on the northern city of Mosul overnight.
