UAE cabinet approves $11.5bn federal budget

The UAE cabinet has approved a federal budget of AED42.2bn ($11.5bn) for 2009, a 21 per cent increase on the 2008 budget.

According to a statement issued by the government on 22 October, priority has been given to the health and education sectors.

The education and services sectors have been allocated 23 and 37 per cent increases on this year’s budget.

The report stated that incomes of ministries will grow in 2009 to about AED24bn, up from just AED7bn recorded a decade earlier in 1999.

The federal budget covers UAE government ministries. The individual emirates also have separate budgets for their own municipal and social services.
