- Completion set for 2017
Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) has already completed more than one-third of the 328-kilometre Al-Mafraq to Ghuweifat road project.
The entire project, which links cities in Abu Dhabis Western Region with the rest of the national and international highway, is due for completion in 2017.
The completed segments of the road cost Musanada AED5.3bn ($1.4bn), according to the UAEs Emirates News Agency (Wam). Regional projects tracker MEED Projects estimates the total budget for the project at $3bn.
Abu Dhabis Department of Transport (DOT) worked alongside Musanada in designing the Al-Mafraq-Ghuweifat international road. Ghuweifat is located on the border with Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The project is divided into four sections, three of which feature a 253km dual carriageway with a series of road interchanges and a major intersection in Ruwais. The remaining section includes a 54km road that will bypass Ruwais, as well as a 20km road rehabilitation.
