Description: From 2007-10, Emirates Aluminium Company (Emal; an Emirates Global Aluminium company) built and started the first phase of its aluminium smelter complex at Al-Taweelah in the UAE. The smelter achieved full production in December 2010, ahead of schedule and within budget. This success was achieved while maintaining excellent environmental, health and safety results. The original masterplan made provision for subsequent expansion of the facilities. Phase 2, combined with an existing facility upgrade, increases the annual aluminium production capacity from 740,000 tonnes to 1.3 million tonnes.
