UAE launches health council

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, vice-president of the UAE, has issued a decree establishing a national health council.

The new body will be chaired by Health Minister Humaid al-Qattami. It will have two representatives each from the Health Ministry, the Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Health Care City and the medical services sectors of the Interior Ministry and the armed forces, as well as from the private health sector.

The council will co-ordinate with local and federal healthcare providers as well as the private healthcare sector to improve the standard of service in the UAE.

It will also work with the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research to develop policy for medical education.
