UK consultant appointed for QP complex

The UK's Halcrowconfirmed on 18 October its appointment as consultant for the new Qatar Petroleum (QP)headquarters complex in Ras Abu Aboud. Halcrow's contract, worth an estimated£20 million ($30 million), is for 45 months and includes masterplanning, design development and construction supervision.

The estimated $150 million project involves the complete redevelopment of QP's existing Ras Abu Aboud site. The new complex will accommodate 3,000 QP staff drawn from offices around Doha and include a landmark main office building with a built-up area of 50,000 square metres. It will also comprise training facilities, a mosque, medical centre, fire station, recreation buildings and a sports stadium, as well as the refurbishment of several existing buildings, including the computer centre.

Halcrow will be assisted on the project by US-based architect Gensler Associates Internationaland UK cost planner Davis Langdon & Everest. Several other specialist subconsultants are due to be appointed for disciplines such as IT.

The masterplanning and concept design will be led by Halcrow's London office. Detailed design and documentation for some elements of the project will be undertaken in the firm's Doha and Dubai offices.
