UK pledges£30 million to Red Cross in Iraq

The UK's Department for International Development (DfID) announced on 25 March that it has committed£30 million ($48 million) to support appeals launched by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) for donations to help the people of Iraq.

This brings the total committed by DfID to UN agencies, NGOs and the Red Cross movement to meet humanitarian needs in Iraq to £50 million ($80 million), the department said.

Of the new commitment £15 million ($24 million) will go to the ICRC and £15 million ($24 million) to the IFRC.
