US chip makers cut staff

US-based Spansion Inc, one of the world's largest makers of flash memory chips, said yesterday it will trim its global work force by 35%, affecting about 3,000 employees, mostly at manufacturing sites, AP has reported. The news comes the same day that fellow chip maker Micron Technology announced it will slash as many as 2,000 workers by the end of August and phase out certain manufacturing operations at its Boise, Idaho facility.
