US firm wins major UAE defence deal

Contracts worth $4.9bn awarded one day before close of International Defence Exhibition & Conference 

The US’ Raytheon won the largest contract valued at AED1.29bn ($352m) on the fourth day of the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (Idex) in Abu Dhabi.

The deal is for the supply of ammunitions to the UAE Defence Armed Forces.

The deal puts US contractors slightly ahead of Russia in terms of contracts won so far.

The deal accounts for 38 per cent of the total value of contracts awarded for the day, which stood at AED3.42bn.

The value of deals inked over the past four days of the exhibition is AED18.4bn, or roughly $5bn, with one day to go before the show closes.

The previous edition of Idex in 2015 generated deals worth in excess of AED18.3bn.
