The PMC contract, expected to be signed in late June, will involve a conceptual study, basic engineering, and specifications. It will also contain an option for construction supervision.
Phase II will have capacity of up to 1,000 MW of power and 100 million gallons a day (g/d) of desalination. UWEC is looking to implement the project on a fast-track basis, with the award of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package scheduled by the end of the year. Fourteen international and local companies have applied for prequalification: the list of prequalifiers is expected to be finalised in July. Completion of phase II is set for the summer of 2006.
Fichtner was also the consultant on the phase I 656-MW and 100 million-g/d plant, which has recently entered production.
