In a year that starts with Dubai Expo 2020 in full swing and ends with the world’s biggest sporting event – the Fifa football World Cup 2022 – in Qatar, businesses in the region can look forward to a surge in activity as investment increases and travel returns.

The global recovery in 2021 has seen oil prices recover to 2018 levels and significantly eased the pressure on government finances. With oil prices expected to rise further in 2022, government budgets are returning to surplus, enabling more spending on projects.

But the outlook is not without a few clouds.
