Work begins on Riyadh botanical gardens

Work has begun on the first phase of the King Abdullah International Gardens project in Riyadh.

The $200m project, located near Riyadh on the highway to Mecca will be carried out in three phases. The first phase, which is currently under way, covers the earthworks. The botanical gardens are expected to be complete in three years.

The local Omrania & Associates is the project manager, which is working in collaboration with the UK landscape-design firm Barton Willmore.

Riyadh Municipality is the client (MEED 11:1:08).

A swathe of new projects is currently being planned for the capital. Three major residential communities are in the design phase. Dar al-Arkan’s Shams Riyadh, the $11bn Al-Wasl development by Limitless and one further development by Kingdom Holding located to the northeast of the city.
