Mubadala-owned company launches satellite with success

UAE-based Al-Yah Satellite Communications Company’s (Yahsat) internet services will be ready in the next two months once the Y1A satellite, launched 22 April reaches full orbit.

“We have completed the first phase, which went well. The next step will be for the satellite to reach its final position and then we can go online. So far everything is on track,” says regional manager Emil Samarah.

Once the satellite is in place, the company will be able to offer its services across the region. It will cater to its military clients in the UAE and the rest of the GCC.

The company is due to launch the next satellite in the fourth quarter of 2011, which will enable them to offer the Yahclick, its consumer broadband service. Yahsat has partnered with local operators to distribute Yahclick, including Sky-Stream and Axiom Telecom in the UAE.
