Yemen agrees airport expansion loan

04 December 2007
The Yemeni parliament has agreed to a $160m loan from Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development to finance the expansion of Sanaa International Airport.

Yemen is mid-way through the expansion, which will see the passenger terminal upgraded and new runways built. The loan is the second to be granted fro the project by the fund. In 2001, a $91.8m was granted for the first phase of the airport expansion.

Yemeni MPs have insisted that the government presents periodical reports on progress at the site. Any changes to the schedule or scope of the project are to be reported immediately after the last phase of the expansion fell behind schedule.
