Yemen cancels tender for rural electricity programme consultants

10 February 2011

Consultant was to advise on off-grid component of project

Yemen’s Electricity & Energy Ministry has cancelled its invitation for expressions of interest to advise on its rural energy access project.

The invitation, which was issued only a day before it was cancelled on 9 February, called for responses by 4 March.

The chosen firm was to advise on off-grid power projects across the country. The programme is supported by a grant from the World Bank’s International Development Association and loans from the Islamic Development Bank and Agence Francaise de Development.

The project was aimed at improving electricity access for rural populations and demonstrating the feasibility of access for on and off-grid areas through solar power.

The consultant was to advise on the off-grid work in collaboration with Yemen’s General Authority for Rural Electricity (GARE).
