Dalqam’s arrest comes two days after Yemeni authorities arrested Saudi-born Mohammed Hamdi al-Ahdal after a raid on a house in the capital. Al-Ahdal was on the US’ list of top twenty most wanted Al-Qaeda figures. A Yemeni official on 28 November said US officials had visited Al-Ahdal in prison. The visit came after an official request from the US for access to Al-Ahdal soon after his detention. Al-Qaeda has been held responsible for the bombing of two foreign ships in Yemeni waters: the USS Cole in 2000 and the French Limburg oil tanker in 2002 (MEED 26:11:03).
