Terrorists continue to target major source of government income in impoverished country

Yemen LNG has reported that it has been subjected to another terrorist attack on one of its pipelines.

The attack was carried out on a 38-inch gas pipeline that links Block 18 to the Balhaf terminal on the Gulf of Aden. The attack occurred in the early hours of 25 September and there were no casualties.

The company has been targeted in a series of attacks on its infrastructure since the political upheaval started in Yemen in early 2011.

Yemen LNG project company consortium is led by France’s Total and produces 6.7 million tonnes a year (t/y) of liquefied natural gas. Oil and gas accounts for 90 per cent of Yemen’s total exports and 75 per cent of the government’s income.
