Ali Abdullah Saleh in Riyadh for medical treatment after rocket attack leaves him injured

The political situation in Yemen has been thrown into deeper chaos after President Ali Abdullah Saleh fled to neighbouring Saudi Arabia for medical treatment.

Saleh flew to Riyadh after being injured in a rocket attack on the presidential palace in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa on 3 June.

The mosque inside the compound was attacked and other governmental officials were also injured, including the prime minister.

Many people in Yemen are questioning whether Saleh will now return to the impoverished nation and that this signifies that his 33 years of power are over.

Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi is now the acting president and he is scheduled to meet senior military officers as well as Saleh’s sons within the next few days.
