Emirates Steel Arkan continues to expand its product lineup with technology-driven, eco-conscious solutions that reinvent industry standards

In conversation with Eng. Saeed Khalfan al-Ghafri, CEO of Emirates Steel, an Emirates Steel Arkan company

What inspired the development of ES600 steel rebar, and how does it contribute to the construction sector’s transformation?

As the world moves towards a sustainable future, we are busy working on changing the future of the construction industry. Emirates Steel Arkan is set to revolutionise sustainable construction practices with ES600, an innovative high-strength rebar.

With the world embracing a future of environmental responsibility and resource conservation, ES600 is taking centre stage as a game-changing solution designed to reshape the construction landscape.

What are the environmental benefits of using ES600 steel rebar in terms of reducing carbon emissions?

ES600 promotes sustainability in construction by reducing steel and concrete usage. On average, it reduces about a tonne of CO2 emissions per floor in tower construction. Every 10,000 tonnes of ES600 rebar used eliminates 12,107 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Lower usage of building materials means reduced logistics movements by trucks, reducing the carbon footprint.

If a 40-storey tower is constructed, about 40 tonnes of CO2 emissions are reduced. ES600 is not just a product; it’s a philosophy that embodies sustainable construction ideals. By integrating cutting-edge technology and innovative design, ES600 redefines how buildings are constructed, contributing to reduced energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and optimised resource utilisation.

How does ES600 steel rebar enhance construction efficiency in terms of cost and time savings?

ES600 is a true disrupter in the construction industry. By using ES600 rebar, we actively participate in sustainable construction practices that prioritise eco-friendliness and resource efficiency. With every application of the rebar, we contribute to lowering CO2 emissions, making each structure a beacon of sustainability.

In addition to this, ES600 steel rebar enhances construction efficiency in the following ways:

  • Its strength allows for reduced rebar quantities, leading to significant cost and time savings in construction projects.
  • With reduced rebar quantities, transportation costs are minimised, contributing to a more sustainable supply chain.
  • The reduction in quantity means less storage space is required on construction sites, optimising land usage.
  • The rebar’s design flexibility enables smoother, more visually appealing structures, enhancing overall aesthetics.
  • Optimised column sizes lead to increased floor space, adding value to every square metre of constructed area.

Could you provide examples of projects where these benefits have been realised?

Al-Habtoor Tower: Al-Habtoor Group’s 81-storey Al-Habtoor Tower is set to be the world’s largest residential tower. It will be the first in the GCC and Mena region to be constructed without foundations. The tower will be directly built on the piling made up of ES600 rebars and sections that will penetrate the existing three basement levels, reaching 85 metres deep.

Sobha Crest: Sobha Crest at Sobha Hartland comprises four towers, with the tallest standing at 47 stories and constructed using ES600 steel. These mid- to high-rise towers offer premium apartments featuring Caribbean-style crystal lagoon views.

What future developments or innovations can we expect from Emirates Steel Arkan Group in the realm of eco-conscious construction materials and techniques?

This cutting-edge construction solution has already attracted significant interest and is quickly gaining recognition as the go-to choice for high-profile projects seeking effective, efficient and environmentally conscious materials. ES600 is set to establish a new industry benchmark and potentially create a new paradigm shift in construction best practices.

Emirates Steel Arkan continues to expand its product lineup with technology-driven, eco-conscious solutions that redefine conventional industry standards. ES600 is more than a steel rebar, but rather a symbol of innovation, sustainability and a greener tomorrow. Its integration within iconic projects showcases its capabilities to reshape construction methodologies, reduce carbon footprints and enhance efficiency. As the world looks towards a more sustainable future, ES600 is a beacon of progress in construction innovation.
