Oil production capacity in Kuwait has reached 3.2 million barrels a day (b/d), its highest level in more than 10 years, according to Tareq Al‑Roumi, the country’s oil minister.
Kuwait had a similar capacity in the late 2000s, peaking at a recorded 3.3 million b/d in 2010.
The country’s oil production capacity declined after 2010, but Kuwait is now pushing to raise it.
Despite the higher capacity, Kuwait says it will continue to abide by Opec+ agreements and will produce 2.559 million b/d from October, Al‑Roumi told Kuwait’s Al‑Qabas newspaper.
Earlier this month, state-owned upstream operator Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) announced that it had started commercial production from the Mutriba oil field.
Commercial output from Mutriba officially began on 15 June 2025, after several wells were connected to KOC’s production facilities.
The field, in a previously undeveloped stretch of northwest Kuwait, covers more than 230 square kilometres and lies outside the area of fields already operated by the company.
