Saudi gigaproject developer Neom has launched a food company named Topian to focus on food production and distribution.

The company will explore sustainable and innovative food solutions, including climate-proof agriculture; regenerative aquaculture; novel foods; personalised nutrition; sustainable food supply; and environmental, social and corporate governance issues.

The launch of Topian, under the tagline Future to Table, is supported by the Saudi Environment, Water & Agriculture Ministry with a view to working towards the kingdom’s food security goals.

Nadhmi Al-Nasr, CEO of Neom, said: “Topian’s innovative approach will be a key driver in shaping the future landscape of a sustainable and secure food industry. We look forward to working closely with investors, partners and food industry experts in turning ambitious ideas into reality and supporting economic diversification in the kingdom, aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.”

Juan Motamayor, CEO of Topian, highlighted the intersection of the company’s remit with the Saudi Green Initiative, the kingdom’s goal of self-sufficiency and the UN Sustainability Development Goals.

He added: “We are not only committing to shaping a transformative global food system, but also to setting a global benchmark by pioneering new technologies and innovative solutions to overcome food-related challenges and create a more secure, sustainable and prosperous future for all.”

Topian has already signed knowledge partnership agreements with King Abdullah University of Science & Technology and Tabuk University.

It also has private sector partnerships with US agriculture giant Cargill, US aquaculture firm BlueNalu, Tabuk Fish Company and the Dutch greenhouse innovator Van der Hoeven Horticultural Projects.
