The company is extending its construction and engineering expertise across the region

In conversation with Eng. Hussein El Dessouky, chairman and managing director of EDECS

What are the future plans and aspirations for EDECS in Saudi Arabia?

We are currently focused on delivering excellence on our new projects while actively pursuing opportunities in niche markets such as infrastructure upgrades, enhancing the kingdom’s maritime infrastructure and upgrading logistics networks.

Our aspirations reach beyond construction – EDECS aims to become a trusted partner in Saudi Arabia’s ambitious transformation plans, leveraging our Grade A credentials and regional expertise.

Where do you see project opportunities in the Gulf region and what are the challenges faced by EDECS?

The Gulf presents immense potential for infrastructure development, driven by visionary national plans. We see opportunities in sustainable tourism projects, smart city initiatives and large industrial zones.

Of course, challenges exist, including intense competition and adapting to evolving regulatory landscapes. But with our agility and commitment to innovation, we are confident in navigating these complexities.

What are some of the most significant and impactful projects that the company is currently undertaking in Saudi Arabia?

We are proud of our ongoing contributions to Saudi Arabia’s growth.

The Jeddah South container terminal project is testament to our capabilities. However, I am particularly excited about the Neom smart city project – a chance to shape the future of urban living alongside some of the world’s brightest minds.

How does EDECS invest in the training and development of employees to ensure they possess the necessary skills for success?

Our people are our foundation. We have a robust employee development programme that constantly sharpens their skills through tailored courses, upskilling initiatives and knowledge-sharing workshops.

This investment in our employees ensures they are equipped to tackle the intricate demands of our projects and remain at the forefront of the construction landscape.

What do you believe is the role of EDECS in shaping the future of the construction industry?

EDECS is not just building structures; we are building futures.

In the Gulf, we see a chance to contribute to a region on the cusp of a transformative era.

With our unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability and talent development, we are determined to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the construction industry, not just in the Gulf, but across the globe.
