Ambush on security force’s hideout occurred 370km from Cairo in Western Desert

At least 53 members of Egypt’s security forces were killed during an attack from suspected Islamist militants in the Western Desert area of Egypt on 21 October.

According to international media reports, militants attacked the security force’s hideout near the Bahariya oasis in the Western Desert area, about 370km from Cairo, Egypt’s capital city. At least 53 security staff and 15 militants are reported to have been killed during the clash.
