
The rapid transit system will be operational in 2011
Zurich-based ABB has won the contract to provide electrical equipment for an electric rapid transit project in King Saud bin Abdulaziz University in Riyadh.
The deal covers the design, engineering, testing, commissioning and installation of electrical equipment and a supervisory control and data acquisition (Scada) control and monitoring system for the project. ABB will also supply transformers, rectifiers, power supply systems, switchgears and low-voltage equipment.
ABB will supply the equipment to Spain’s Sice, who have a contract with local Saudi Binladin Group, which is carrying out the construction of the project.
Three traction power substations will be used to operate the rapid transit project.
King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences spread over five square kilometres. The rapid transit system will provide an emissions-free transportation around the campus and will have 24 stations when it starts operating in 2011.
