A key person responsible for developing the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) market in the GCC

Biography: Abdolhossein Bayat became managing director of Iran’s state-owned NPC in October 2009.
At the same time, he was made the country’s deputy minister for petroleum in charge of all petrochemical affairs. Bayat replaced Adel Nejadsalim as managing director after his dismissal by oil minister Masoud Mirkazemi – a close ally of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad – in the wake of the highly protested June presidential elections.
Bayat is responsible for PET production at NPC subsidiary Shahid Tondgooyan Petrochemical Company – Iran’s largest producer of plastic bottles and other PET products. Located on Iran’s Gulf coast, the facility has a capacity of about 210,000 t/y. Previously, Bayat worked at Arak Petrochemicals Company.
He is a graduate from Iran’s Abadan Petroleum College and has a master’s of business administration from Calgary University.
