A leading figure in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s public utilities sector
Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman al-Hussayen
Position: Water & Electricity Minister
Biography: Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman al-Hussayen has led the Water & Electricity Ministry for the past five years.
He was appointed in April 2004 after one year as deputy. Prior to entering the ministry, Al-Hussayen worked for 26 years at the state-run Saline Water Conversion Corporation, the main producer of desalinated water in the kingdom.
There he held a variety of positions including director of technical administration and director of production and maintenance, and chairman of the board of directors, a position he held from 2001-03.
In 1973, Al-Hussayen graduated from Oregon State University in the US with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and mathematics. He also holds a master’s degree in computer science from the US’ Georgia Institute of Technology. From 1974-1977, Al-Hussayen was a lecturer at King Saud University in Riyadh.
