Biography: Abdullatif al-Othman worked for oil firm Saudi Aramco for more than 30 years before he was appointed to his current position in 2012. He became the third governor of Sagia, which is equivalent to a minister’s role, last May, and is responsible for driving the kingdom’s industrial diversification.
This is being spearheaded by the construction of industrial cities, and managing the business environment through issuing licences and attracting investment. Al-Othman started his career as an engineer with Aramco in 1981. He became vice-president of Aramco’s finance division in 2003, then served as chairman of the local/US Sadara Chemical Company.
Al-Othman has a degree in civil engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in Dhahran and a master’s degree in business administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US.
