Abdulrahman Ahmad al-Shaibi

Biography: As a board member and managing director of QFCA, Abdulrahman al-Shaibi wields a great deal of influence over the development of the QFC. He also serves as director of finance for Qatar Petroleum and a member of the government’s Finance Policy Committee and sits on the board of Qatargas and Qatar Steel.

Al-Shaibi has played a key role in creating many of the large transactions that have attracted international banks to do business with Qatar. He has also been instrumental in Qatar’s successful financing of a raft of projects in recent years.

Al-Shaibi is expected to play a similar key role in developing local capital markets, particularly by encouraging the Qatari conglomerates he is involved with to tap domestic markets. He is also part of the team responsible for developing Qatar Petroleum International, the global investment arm of QP.
