Abu Dhabi airport to deploy new IT infrastructure

Terminals to align IT infrastructure with those being installed at the Midfield Terminal Complex

A full airport information technology (IT) package from Switzerland’s Sita will be deployed across Abu Dhabi International airport’s three terminals.

The new infrastructure will include Sita’s latest real-time airport management, passenger check-in and boarding, and baggage handling solutions, according to a statement released by the Geneva-headquartered airport solutions provider.

Sita has begun rolling out the same solutions at the under construction Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC), through a five-year agreement it has signed with the Abu Dhabi Airports in May 2015.

The package, part of Abu Dhabi Airport’s technology transformation project, is in line with the airport’s goal to increase total annual capacity to 45 million passengers by 2017.

Due for completion by July 2017, the MTC alone has an estimated capacity of 30 million passengers a year.

Some 20 million passengers are understood to have passed through the Abu Dhabi International airport’s three existing terminals in 2014. A double-digit annual passenger growth is also expected to continue into the future, according to the Abu Dhabi Airports Chief Executive Ahmad al-Haddabi.
