Abu Dhabi awards Zakum expansion deal

21 November 2007
The local/French consortium of the National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) and Paris-based Technip has been formally awarded the $370m contract to expand gas processing facilities at the offshore lower and upper Zakum fields.

The group was initially selected in the summer and will start work following approval from the Supreme Petroleum Council and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (MEED 25:7:07).
The engineering, procurement and construction contract covers the installation of two 220 million-cubic-feet-a-day gas injection compressors, an air-cooling system, dehydration units, pressure vessels and reboilers.
The facility will handle increased associated gas production from the client, Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company.
Engineering and procurement of critical items will be handled by Technip. Jacket fabrication and equipment assembly will be carried out by NPCC.
