09 April 2011

Abu Dhabi's Lifeline hospital has launched a campaign aimed at educating women in the capital on breast cancer, Gulf News has reported. The 'Breast Cancer Awareness' campaign offers breast screenings for women above 40 years of age at a mobile mammography unit at Al Raha Mall in Abu Dhabi. "Breast cancer has been identified as the single most common cancer in the UAE among Emiratis and expatriate women. It accounts for 28% of all female deaths in the UAE. About 80% of cases of breast cancer start in the ducts, while about 20% start in the lobules," Dr Charles Stanford, senior director, the Lifeline Hospital Group said.
