Aecom and Hill International will manage the contracting consortium working on the airport building
Abu Dhabi Airports Company (Adac) has selected a US team of Aecom and Hill International as the project manager for its midfield terminal project at Abu Dhabi International airport.
Early construction work on the project has already started on the midfield terminal building and a main contractor is expected to be formally appointed in early June. Turkey’s TAV, Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and the local Arabtec Construction are negotiating with Adac for the estimated AED10.55bn ($2.8bn) contract.
Adac confirmed that it selected the joint venture as a preferred bidder in early May. It expects a formal contract award in June.
The consortium was the frontrunner for the contract after it submitted a low bid of AED10.55bn ($2.87bn) for the contract. The price for the contract would make the project the largest ever construction contract in the UAE, according to regional projects tracker MEED Projects.
The midfield terminal will be built between the two existing runways at Abu Dhabi International airport. The total built-up area will be 630,000 square metres and it will include a multi-storey car park. The terminal will include 27,000 sq m of retail and food and beverage outlets. It will also comprise 65 contact gates that will be able to accommodate A380 aircraft.
