Local Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport likely to win $195m contract

Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC) is set to award a contract to the local Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport (NBHH) for a sewerage project to serve Al-Ain in mid October.

The contract, worth AED718m ($195m), involves the construction of 23 kilometres of major gravity sewer,s including 13km of micro tunnelling ranging in diameter between 1-1.8 metres.

NBHH will also construct 24km of treated sewage effluent pumping pipelines ranging in diameter between 0.6 and 1.2 metres. All associated manholes and other related infrastructure will also be provided by NBHH.

The contract also includes the decommissioning of six existing sewage pumping stations. NBHH submitted its bid at the end of 2009 and the work is to be completed within two years of award.

ADSSC launched the project in a bid to accommodate increasing levels of wastewater in the city. The project is part of its asset enhancement scheme, which aims to link sewers to the massive strategic tunnel enhancement programme (Step).

UK-based Hyder Consulting is the adviser on the project.
