Biography: Adel Hamad joined Bahrain-based Garmco in 1992 as a mechanical engineer.
He has held a number of roles within the firm, including engineering planning superintendent and engineering manager. He was appointed deputy general manager in 2005, before becoming CEO in 2007.
The Garmco facility has a capacity of 165,000 t/y, making it the largest such plant in the region. As CEO, Hamad is overseeing Garmco’s ambitious expansion plans, including a $350m, 200,000-t/y rolling mill, to be built next to Sohar Aluminium’s smelter in Oman.
Hamad graduated from the Manama Technical School in 1978 and has a diploma in automotive engineering and a higher national diploma in mechanical engineering. He previously worked as an instructor at Muharraq Technical School. In 2008, he obtained a doctorate in corporate governance.
