Al-Dhaheri has replaced Abdulla Saif Al-Nuaimi with immediate effect
The Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) has appointed Faris al-Dhaheri as the acting director general of the state utility company, replacing Abdulla Saif al-Nuaimi.
Al-Dhaheri assumed duties as director general on 13 January, according to sources in Abu Dhabis utility sector. Al-Dhaheri has previously been employed as the business support director at Adwea.
It is not currently clear why the utility has appointed a new director general. Adwea has yet released any information publicly on the appointment. Al-Nuaimi is expected to remain with Adwea in a consultancy role.
Al-Nuaimi had also previously served as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (Taqa), but stepped down from the position in July 2011 to concentrate on his role as director general with Adwea. Al-Nuaimi joined Adwea in 1999, and worked on a number of independent water and power projects (IWPPs) in his role as director of privatisation.
