Aecom appointed for $3.2bn Bahrain project

The $3.2bn offshore development will have 40 kilometres of waterfront, residences, hotels, schools and shopping malls.

Bahrain’s Diyar al-Muharraq has appointed US’ Aecom as design consultants for its master development north of Manama.

The contract involves primary design work and construction supervision for all related infrastructure work including roads, landscaping and utility networks.

Aecom previously served as the main consultants for the dredging work as well as the projects second phase, which involves the development of 198 villas and associated facilities.

US-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company carried out the dredging work for the first phase of the development, which was completed in 2012. The work involved the dredging and reclamation of 12 square kilometres of land close to the Amwaj islands development and Bahrain International airport

The $3.2bn offshore development, a joint venture between Bahrain-based Kuwait Finance House and private investors, is planned to contain 40 kilometres of waterfront, residences, hotels, schools and shopping malls.
