Aecom wins Masdar project management work

Suburb to be built adjacent to science and technology institute in Abu Dhabi

US-based Aecom has won the contract to provide project management consultancy services for the Masdar Institute Neighbourhood, a part of Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City development.

The neighbourhood will be built adjacent to the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. It will include residential, hospitality, commercial and retail developments,parks and a playground.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) is evaluating bids for the contract to build phase 1b of the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. The local/Hong Kong Al-Ahmadiah/Hip Hing joint venture is already working on phase 1a of the project. US-based Parsons Brinckerhoff is the project manager for this part of the project.

Masdar is also evaluating bids for the deal to build its headquarters building. The bidders are the local Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises with South Africa’s Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East); US-based Contrack International; Germany’s Ed Zueblin; and Japan’s Taisei Corporation.

US-based Louis Berger Group is the project manager for the headquarters (MEED 7:9:09).

Designed by the UK’s Foster & Partners, the 6.5-square-kilometre Masdar City should be completed by 2016. It will eventually expand and accommodate 1,500 businesses and 50,000 residents.

US-based CH2M Hill is the programme manager for the scheme.
