Ahmadiah wins Pearl City infrastructure package

The local Ahmadiah Contracting & Trading Companyhas received a letter of intent, valued at KD 40 million ($138 million), for the phase 1 infrastructure package on the Al-Khiran Pearl City development. The client is the local La'Ala al-Kuwait Real Estate Company, which is the developer on the mixed-use seafront project.

The 18-month contract will cover infrastructure works for 1,200 plots on an area of 2.5 million square metres. Ahmadiah will carry out the installation of sewerage, power, water and telephone lines; build sewage treatment facilities, 54 substations and roads; and undertake soft landscaping.

Pearl City will be developed in phases and will eventually be home to about 50,000 residents. The consultant is a team of the UK's Buro Happoldwith the local Gulf Consult.

Pearl City is one of two major real estate developments planned at Khiran, which is close to the Saudi Arabian border. The Executive Authority for the Development of Kuwaiti Islands, Divided Zones & Major Projects is planning a township for 250,000 people.

In February, it awarded infrastructure contracts, totalling KD 48.3 million ($161 million), to the local Mohammed Abdulmohsin Kharafi & Sonsand Consolidated Contractors Company (Conco- MEED 27:2:04).
