Norwegian group says takeover to strengthen its well intervention services in Middle East
Norway’s Aker Solutions has agreed to acquire Dubai-based oil services firm NPS Energy from its parent group National Petroleum Services for $350m.
Aker said the acquisition was part of its strategy to specialise in oil field services after divesting its non-oil and gas businesses and demerging from engineering procurement and construction contractor Kvaerner in 2011.
NPS Energy is focused on well intervention services, including coil tubing, wire-line services, cementing, pressure pumping, well logging, testing and onshore drilling services. It employs about 900 people and reported revenues of $116m in 2011.
Aker said it could strengthen NPS Energy’s well intervention services in the Middle East and North Africa by introducing its own technologies. The acquisition is expected to close in late 2011 or early 2012.
