Al Ain Airport eyes low-cost carrier market

04 November 2008

Al Ain Airport in the UAE is keen to be a hub for low-cost carriers in the region and is expanding its operations to improve its competitiveness, said Rudy Vercelli, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports Company. One of the airport's key advantages is its location, as it is a short drive from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Oman. The airport, which can handle 1,000 passengers per peak hour, also has just one runway and terminal, which means it can get passengers in and out quickly. As a sign of its commitment, the government of Al Ain plans to spend Dhs38bn over the next 15 years to improve the airport's infrastructure, Vercelli added.
