14 January 2003
Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, Qatar's Minister of Energy & Industry, told MEED's Major New Project Opportunities in Qatar conference on 14 January that OPEC aims to maintain 'reasonable prices,' despite Iraq war worries and Venezuela's oil strike. 'We are trying to increase production to stabilise prices,' he said. Al-Attiyah also confirmed that Qatar aims to produce 45 million metric tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by 2010 compared with total production of 14 million tonnes in 2002. This would make Qatar the world's biggest LNG producer.
