The local Al-Fouzan Trading & General Construction Companyhas been awarded the main contract on the Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University expansion project in Riyadh. The contract, valued at about SR 500 million ($133 million), was awarded on the basis of a reduced scope of works, after original quotes came in well above budget. The client is the Higher Education Ministry (MEED 7:1:05).
The 18-month contract calls for the construction of two colleges for female students, each of which will have a built-up area of 84,000 square metres. It will also entail the construction of a 100,000-square-metre covered car park, site development and all other related works. Under the original tender, three colleges were planned. Six local companies submitted bids in early January for the contract, with Al-Fouzan offering a low price of SR 770 million ($210 million). Imam University was established in 1974.
