Local/UK contractor will build Zaha Hadid-designed building
The local/UK Al-Futtaim Carillion has been selected for the contract to build the new headquarters building for Sharjah-based waste management company Beeah.
UK-based Zaha Hadid won the competition to design the building in 2013. The design has includes open plan office space, courtyards, water features and an auditorium.
Beeah is developing a series of waste management projects in Sharjah. Earlier this year it tendered a contract to build, own and operate a 20MW solar plant at Sharjahs main landfill. The off-grid photovoltaic (PV) installation will store energy to power the waste management centre in the Al-Sajaa district of the emirate 24 hours a day.
In 2014, Beeah awarded a AED1.7bn ($463m) million contract to UK-based Chinook for the construction of a thermal energy-from-waste plant in Sharjah.
