Phase 1A6 is the third contract that the contractor has secured on the Dubai World Trade Centre development
The local/UK Al-Futtaim Carillion (AFC) has been awarded the estimated AED725m ($198m) contract to build Phase 1A6 of Dubai World Trade Centres One Central development.
Phase 1A6 has a built up area of 182,500 square metres and comprises two Grade A office buildings of 12 and 8 storeys. Construction work will start in January 2017 and is scheduled for full completion at the end of 2018.
AFC has already completed Phase 1A2 and is working on Phase 1A5 on the One Central development. The latest award takes the overall value of AFC contracts for the One Central development to AED1.8bn.
AFC has received funding support from UK Export Finance (UKEF) for earlier work on the development. AFC did not say if UKEF funding support has been secured for Phase 1A6.
In December, UK-based Carillion said it will focus on winning new work in the Middle East with the support of UKEF as the trading environment continues to be difficult for construction companies operating in the region due to low oil prices.
