Mixed-use development will be built on a 1.5 million square-metre site
The local Al-Naboodah Construction has started work on the estimated AED120m ($33m) infrastructure contract for a real estate development in the Jebel Ali area of Dubai.
The works include the installation of general infrastructure and roads and the diversion of existing utilities.
Known as the Jebel Ali Development, the project is being managed by the local Wasl.
The project is located on a 1.5 million square-metre site next to the Energy metro station in Jebel Ali across Sheikh Zayed road from the Dubai Aluminium complex.
Preparatory works for the project were completed last year by the local Port Saeed Transport & Building Contracting Company. Those works included bulk earthworks and the demolition of workers camps in the area.
Details of plans for the development released earlier showed a mixed-use development with villas and mid-rise buildings with a total built-up area of more than 2 million square metres. If construction costs are AED4,000 a square metre, the development could cost AED8bn to complete.
