Alba steel packages out to bid

Contractors have until 23 March to bid for the structural steel subcontract for the fifth potline expansion of Aluminium Bahrain (Alba). The package covers the supply and erection of between 10,000-12,000 tonnes of steel for potlines 9 and 10. Prospective bidders are AA Nass Group, Ahmed Mansour al-A'Ali(AMA)and Haji Hassan Group- all local, Zamil Steel Industriesof Saudi Arabia, South Africa's Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East)and Jebel Ali-based Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Middle East.

Bids are also due on 9 March for the main civil works package. Six contractors are expected to bid: AA Nass, AMA and Haji; Tamimi Groupof Saudi Arabia; Cyprus-based GP Zachariades (GPZ - Overseas); and Murray & Roberts. Bechtelof the US is the main engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contractor for the BD 646 million ($1,700 million) scheme (MEED 21:2:03; 31:1:02).
