France's Alcatelhas been awarded a contract to provide a gigabit passive optical network (GPON) solution for the Ministry of Communications (MOC). Under the contract, Alcatel will install and oversee the roll-out of a new system to offer subscribers triple-play services - voice, video and data. The new infrastructure will enable the delivery of services such as high-speed internet. MOC is deploying GPON in 33 areas, of which Alcatel's solution will serve about 60 per cent of the access areas involved in the roll-out.
