
Annaba tram bid deadline is 3 November
Algeria has issued a tender for the construction of the first line of a tramway in Annaba in the northeast of Algeria.
The deadline for bids is 3 November and the client on the project is the Algiers Metro Company.
The line will be 21.8 kilometres long and have 35 stations. Construction is due to begin in January 2014.
Algeria has also issued a tender for the extension of the first line of Constantine tramway covering Zouaghi - Mohamed Boudiaf airport to Zouaghi New Town Ali Mendjel. Bids are due in on 1 November.
Constantine tramway was opened in July and is 8km long with 10 stops.
Algeria is investing $6bn into tram networks across 14 Algerian cities. A tram in Algiers was opened in late 2011, and tram networks in Constantine and Oran were opened in May and July this year respectively.
Construction work on another five tramways in the towns of Ouargla, Mostaganem, Setif and Batna will begin in 2014. Turkish firm Yapi Merkezi is working on the designs for the 13km tram in Sidi Be Abbes, having won the $420m contract in April this year.
