Position: CEO, Sadara Chemical Company
Biography: With 32 years’ experience working for Saudi Aramco, Ali Abuali is now running the oil giant’s $20bn Jubail-based petrochemicals joint venture with the US’ Dow Chemical. Appointed as CEO in November 2011, Abuali is expected to support conversion industries that want to set up next to the Sadara site at Jubail.
He began his career in 1980 at Aramco’s projects department and worked in various divisions, including the project support and controls department, as well as the Northern Area projects department. From there, Abuali moved to new business evaluation, which in turn led to his appointment as programme director of the team building the PetroRabigh refinery and petrochemicals complex on the kingdom’s west coast.
He has a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of Arizona in the US, as well as a degree in civil engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals in Saudi Arabia.
